UFC veteran Nate Quarry might have found his career after fighting (even if he is not retired yet) – motivational speaking! “The Rock” spoke back in late April for TED, a lecture series with a world-renowned reputation, about the obstacles he has endured, from custody battles to spinal surgery, and what drove him to become a UFC fighter and to succeed in life and in the cage. Gotta’ love the Rocky 4 music for his intro!
One of my favorite quotes is from early on in the speech, where Nate says, “My strict definition of courage is facing adversity without fear – and that’s not me.” The fear of failure and embarrassment push Quarry to face his challenges, and it is a very honest moment from this humble gladiator.
TED (Technology Entertainment and Design) is a global set of conferences that are available online to help spread their messages and ideas around the world, and now they can add a cage-fighter to their massive list of speakers. Quarry joins the ranks of Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Malcolm Gladwell, Al Gore, and Bill Gates, among many other prestigious individuals who have spoken for TED events in the past
A warning to watchers – the sound seems to fade from good to bad through the entire speech, but it is still watchable and definitely worth your time. What other fighters would you want to see give speeches like this?
