One of these guys is the winner, the other is the loser. Can you guess who?

I have grown quite fond of the M-1 Global shows that the company has done in Atlantic City for the past few months, and the shows have progressively gotten better with each event, as we discussed in our last vlog. As we prepare for their final Selection Americas show on September 18, we look back fondly on the great moments we saw like Byron Byrd’s record-setting knockout and great wars with fighters like Tom Gallichio, George Sheppard and Daniel Vizcaya among others earning their way into this final show… except now we have learned this is not their final American show.

We are proud to be the first site to say that M-1 Global will be returning officially at Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, on December 11 for their first M-1 Challenge event in the states. According to Evgeni Kogan, Director of Operations at M-1 Global, the company kicks off the M-1 Challenge on October 28 at the glamorous Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, where the first ever M-1 champions will be crowned. At that event, Artiom Damkovsky, M-1 Selection Eastern Europe 2010 champion clashes with Mairbek Taisumov, M-1 Selection Western Europe 2010 champion for the Lightweight title, Magomed Sultanakhmedov, M-1 Selection Eastern Europe 2010 champion faces off against RafaÅ‚ Moks, M-1 Selection Western Europe 2010 champ for the middleweight title and Maxim Grishin, M-1 Selection Eastern Europe champion battles the undefeated Guram Gugenishvili, M-1 Selection Western Europe champion for the heavyweight title. This event is important to M-1 as this also marks the first time they will have created Championship belts for regional champions!

The winner of the Americas Welterweight and Light-Heavyweight selection event will face either the Eastern or Western Europe Selections champions in Atlantic City in December back at Bally’s. With all five weight classes having crowned a champ, a contention system will then be put place and the Selection event will return to both Europe and America to feed more fighters into the title scene. This is great news for M-1 and more for East coast fight fans who get another chance to check out one of the few companies that still run fights inside a ring and not a cage.

We will be speaking with several M-1 fighters through this week and next, and The Fight Nerd will be there in person taking more photos at the show, and I hope to see you there to support local fighters working their way on becoming the next big stars in MMA!
