Former UFC Heavyweight champion and one reason for Affliction’s death in promoting MMA events, Josh “The Babyfaced Assassin” Barnett has signed a multi-fight agreement to compete for Strikeforce.

In a press release sent out today by the company, Barnett was quoted as saying, “Strikeforce is the home of the best heavyweight division in the world and I’m proud to be able to call it my home now… I’m looking forward to competing amongst the greatest fighters in the world and fighting my way to another world title.”

Barnett, who is 29-5 in MMA, became the youngest UFC champion in history at age 24 when he scored a second-round TKO (4:35) on MMA legend Randy “The Natural” Couture in 2002. His most recent was on July 10, where Barnett fought for Impact FC with a first-round TKO over Geronimo dos Santos. He will also be a playable character in EA Sports MMA video game in October under the heavyweight category.

No names have been revealed as far as a first opponent, nor a date set for his debut, but we can expect to at least see his chubby face on Strikeforce’s next major show, sitting on the sidelines. We have talked plenty about Barnett before with the Affliction shows and people are still mixed about how pivotal he was in their demise, but for Strikeforce, it is still a big deal and could lead to us getting that big fight against Fedor finally… as long as they both test clean. In other words, don’t have this fight in California!

Who do you think Barnett should fight in his Strikeforce debut, and is this even a good idea for the company to do?
