People who know me more intimately know that I come from a judo background originally, so when there is a Judo event in town, if I know about it I will be there with my gi on!

This Sunday, October 17, the 27th Annual New York Open Judo Championship arrives at Hunter College from 8 AM to 7 PM. That is 11 hours of judo action! For those who are still skeptical, this event will feature some big names in the Judo world, including Pan Am champ Brad Bolen, US National champ Kyle Vashkulat, 2008 Olympian Joao Schlittler, and many other champions from the international Judo scene.

If you are not too familiar with what competitive Judo looks like, take a look at the video above! I will hopefully be there, assuming I recover from my Fall Brawl 2010 video game tournament the day before. Speaking of which (shameless plug) I hope to see all of you guys out there competing for the prizes and hanging with the fighters! Think of it this way – it’s two days of combat sports – video game tournament, UFC 120, then the NY Open Judo Championships! It’s gonna be a busy weekend!

Admission into the Open is $20, and the event starts at 8 AM, with the finals scheduled to start at 5 PM. Hunter College is located on 68th St/Lexington Ave., inside the West Building, B3 Level. More details can be seen See you there! Oss!
