Later tonight on ESPN 2, “A Fighting Chance” will air, which is the story of quadruple amputee Kyle Maynard and his quest to not just win a fight in MMA, but to have the chance to do so. The documentary cover his life and struggles and takes us through his amateur debut fight, which was at Auburn Fight Night at the Auburn Covered Arena in Auburn, Alabama on April 25, 2009 (that is a lot of Auburns). He lost his first mixed martial arts fight to Bryan Fry on a unanimous 30—27 judges’ decision sadly, but he lived his dream.
Maynard has also written a book and tours the country doing motivational speaking. This is the first documentary to really hit the mainstream about MMA since “Smashing Machine” and this will be a much more positive piece about the sport. Anyone plan on checking this out tonight?
