The UFC’s return to New Jersey for UFC 128 has been adding some big matches to the card, making this event even more exciting. The last time the UFC came to Jersey, we saw Georges St. Pierre go five rounds with Dan Hardy for the welterweight title, and Shane Carwin batter Frank Mir like he was a pimp beating one of his girls to claim his interim heavyweight title. So far, we have one title fight set and a few other interesting matches.
UFC.com has given us the scoop (since it is their company) about the next batch of matches set to be fought. The title fight we already knew about was Mauricio Shogun Rua’s first defense against Rashad Evans for the UFC light heavyweight title. We also revealed earlier this month that Mirko “Crocop” Filipovic will face Brendan Schaub in a heavyweight battle.
A bantamweight contender bout between former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber and former bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland will also be featured, along with a featherwight match-up between Joseph Benevidez and Ian Loveland as well as a pair of lightweight showdowns pitting Kurt Pellegrino against Gleison Tibau (which was revealed via twitter not too long ago) and Edson Barbosa against Anthony Njokuani. Mike Pyle VS Ricardo Almeida is also expected to be announced soon and the Miller brothers are also expected to compete at this event (at least it would make sense since they are from Jersey and all).
Things are heating up, and I am very excited for this event since us East Coast fans rarely get treated to a UFC event. It’s refreshing to see they care about their fans here and aren’t giving us another stinker like UFC 78. Yuck. Now that we know more of what we are seeing, any predictions for this event?
