We have some new details about former MMA fighter, Gina Carano, and her upcoming movie. Note how I wrote “former”, since after her beating at the hands of Cris Cyborg, we have not seen Gina step into a cage nor ring.

The movie called “Haywire”, which was set to have a preview in New York back in October which turned out to be a false alarm, has now been confirmed for a release date of April 22. The Film Stage gives us this bit of news on the film, which was directed by Steven Soderbergh, in regards to Gina’s involvement and what we can expect to see in the movie.

He shared the pretty funny note that the film’s star Gina Carano, an MMA fighter herself, scared off some male stars as they apparently weren’t comfortable with the idea of being beaten up by a woman onscreen. There’s just something that makes me chuckle about the apparent gender politics that are still apparent in Hollywood today, despite many advancements being made in that department over the past few years. For fans of action set-pieces, they may be interested to know that there’s a “hotel suite sequence” that the director describes as “fun.”

Other than “Haywire”, Soderbergh will also release “Contagion” this year starring Matt Damon and Kate Winslet, and he still has his Liberace biopic with Michael Douglas, and is intent on doing “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” with George Clooney in the lead. But none of us care about those things since they lack Gina Carano. Come April, we will see if Carano has any chops when it comes to acting in a lead role, and if her future will be in Hollywood or back in a cage.

  1. Some of the male stars did not want to be beaten up by Gina Carano on-screen? That sounds pretty weak to me. Especially since she’s a fairly big girl and a professional mma fighter, so there is absolutely no doubt that she could easily beat them up in a real street fight. I guess there are some small men in Hollywood who can’t handle the truth – even though it’s nothing they should be ashamed of. Like I said – weak.
