Strikeforce’s debut in New Jersey on February 12 has added a new match to their undercard, and one half of that fight is a member of the esteemed Gracie family.
Igor Gracie will be taking on John Salgado (pictured above on the right) before Strikeforce begins their Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament, with Fedor Emelianeko VS Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Andrei Arlovski VS Sergei Kharitonov. The bout was confirmed by MMAWeekly.com by Gracie’s manager. Both fighters are from the East Coast and train in New York and New Jersey.
Igor, who is 2-2 in MMA, did not fight in 2010, although he was booked to compete at Brick City Fighting Championship but was forced off the card due to a heart rate problem that led the commission to take him off the event on very short notice. John Salgado, who is 4-4-1, is making his Strikeforce debut and last fought local fighter Chris Liguori in November 2010 at DaMMAge Fight League, losing by decision in a very exciting match.
The bout between Gracie and Salgado will be part of the undercard which will showcase all heavyweights, including Shane Del Rosario vs. Lavar “Big’’ Johnson, Chad “The Grave Digger’’ Griggs vs. Gian Villante, and Valentijn Overeem against Ray “Sugarfoot’’ Sefo.
