Jumping at the opportunity to make a return appearance to Russia in search of redemption, American Top Team fighter and self-promoting fan-favorite Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner hits the Crocus City Arena in Moscow to face Alexander Volkov on Saturday, March 5th; fans worldwide will be able to catch the action live online for free on the official M-1 website, as well as this site too , starting at 11:00am EST / 8:00am PST.

“Kenny was asking for a shot to come back to Russia even before he left St. Petersburg after his loss to Guram in October,” says Evgeni Kogan, Director of Operations for M-1 Global in a press release from the company. “Kenny brings relentless ‘heart’ in to all his fights and losing the title fight in the fashion he did left him upset and hungry to get back on track. Not only does the fight against Volkov make sense based on both fighters’ contention position, it makes a great fight stylistically.”

An American Top Team protege, “Deuce” lost his shot at the M-1 Heavyweight title to Guram Gugenishvili early in the second round, being choked unconscious with a tight guillotine. In an interview we did with Kenny a few months ago, Garner promised us it would not happen again and he will be back stronger than ever. Volkov last fought Pat Bennett from Team Bomb Squad to a controversial draw, namely since Bennett won the entire three round fight, but the Russian judges were not convinced so they had a fourth round to settle it, with Volkov barely managing to walk around. This was somehow determined a draw, however I have been informed that this decision is being argued in hopes of overturning it.

With both Garner and Volkov coming off losses, the winner of the heavyweight contention bout steps closer in the right direction for a potential title shot down the road while the fighter on the wrong end of the raised arm will need to shake off the losing skid in a hurry if there is to be any chance of getting back in the hunt anytime in 2011.
