Ryan Couture’s opponent for February Strikeforce Challengers determined

Ryan Couture, will seek his second consecutive victory when he meets Lee Higgins in a lightweight bout of a Strikeforce Challengers fight card on Friday, February 18.

Ryan, the son of MMA legend, Randy Couture, will be making his second appearance in Strikeforce, coming off his victorious debut in August with a first-round submission (triangle choke) over Lucas Stark. Born in Seattle, Couture wrestled in junior high and high school before taking up Jiu-Jitsu. He graduated in 2004 with a mathematics degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash., and four years later found himself intereseted in MMA.

Higgins, who fights out of Houston with a record of 2-0, is a product of Tony Aponte’s “Urban Jungle,” and holds a blue belt in BJJ. In his last two fights, the 5-foot-11, 30-year-old submitted Gilbert Jimenez at 2:36 in his most recent outing on Dec. 4. He forced Kenny Burke to tap at 1:25 the previous Nov. 12. Both fights were in Houston.

In the main event, unbeaten rising star Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm takes on dangerous veteran Pat “Bam Bam’’ Healy. The winner in the lightweight scrap remains in contention for a possible shot at the Strikeforce title.
