Listen up, international MMA fans! We have a great women’s fight happening in a month over in the UK as Cage Warriors champ Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton will face Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi in a 125-pound non-title bout at CWFC 40 on February 26, 2011. Yup, it’s “The Surgeon” VS “The Happy Warrior” in a battle of who has the best nickname!
Rosi, pictured above (the face, not the butt), was last in the cage against Sally Krumdiack, defending her title successfully, at Cage Warriors FC 39 in November. Sexton also competed in the Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament earlier this year, but a knockout loss to Zoila Frausto prior to the tournament put her out of the event, and also gave her first defeat since fighting Gina Carano in 2006. Roxanne was scheduled to fight “The girl fight monster” Hitomi Akano at Sengoku: Soul of Fight on new year’s eve (seriously, women’s MMA has the best nicknames), but had an unfortunate last minute medical emergency that caused her to be unable to compete hours before her bout. In her last fight before that, she was knocked out by a highlight-reel worthy slam from Sarah Kaufman at Strikeforce Challengers 9. Roxy hopes to get back to her winning ways with this, her first fight in 2011 and debut in England.
Just announced today as well for the event was featherweight Champion Danny Batten (13-5-3) defending his belt against Scotland’s Graham ‘Afterburner’ Turner (16-6). Also signed to fight on the show are the likes of Paul “Metabolic” McVeigh, Joseph Duffy, Ashleigh Grimshaw and Arni Isaksson with many more to follow, however no official match-ups have been announced yet. Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 40 takes place on February 26th at the HMV Forum in Kentish Town, North London, England.
