It’s about frikkin’ time!

“The All-American”, Chris Weidman, has a new home where the big boys play! Weidman, who has gone 4-0 in his MMA career and just recently won the Ring of Combat middleweight title against Uriah Hall from Tiger Schulmann’s, will be on the UFC on Versus 3 card on March 3. He will be replacing Rafael Natal, who injured himself in training, and will fight UFC alumni Alessio “Legionarius” Sakara.

We spoke to Weidman at the Strikeforce: Fedor VS Silva press conference, and he told us he was offered a fight on this past Saturday’s card, but due to an injury was unable to compete. Weidman was also selected to compete on the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, until they changed the weight classes and dropped his from the show. A blessing in disguise, as Weidman is being promoted to the big show right away and will have a tough fight on his hands against Sakara who is on a three-fight win streak. Sakara was originally supposed to Chute Boxe fighter Maiquel Falcão, then he was injured leading to Natal to take the spot, but with Natal out, Weidman is in.

Chris Weidman is two time NCAA All-American and NCAA Division I All-American wrestler hailing from Hofstra university. His wrestling credentials include wins over TUF 8 light heavyweight winner Ryan Bader, and rising light heavyweight star and Division I wrestler Phil Davis. We followed Chris around as he prepared for his first MMA fight in ROC, and did a six-part documentary about following him around. Do yourself a favor and check it out right now (this link is for part 6, but it has links to the other parts preceding it). UFC on Versus 3 is headlined by Diego Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann, and features CB Dollaway vs. Mark Munoz, Brian Bowles vs. Damacio Page, and Joe Stevenson vs. Danny Castillo.
