Earlier today, it was announced that Nick Diaz had tested positive for marijuana after his post-fight drug test at UFC 143. It was only a matter of time before UFC president Dana White had something to say about it.
“I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana,” said White in an unusually succinct press release. “It is now in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.” This surprisingly polite reaction most likely means that White is fuming mad like we have never seen before, a level that has not been surpassed and is so horrible, that White must censor himself for our own safety.
It’s safe to assume that Diaz will not be welcome back to the UFC if he decides to come out of retirement, and I am not sure who else will touch him with his drug use being an issue once again. Whether Nick has a right to use it or not via his California card that authorizes it is an interesting issue, augmented by the recent discussion of TRT being used by fighters which would normally be against the rules. Either way, Diaz has blown his big payday in MMA, and can look forward to boxing or triathlons for the next part of his athletic career. What do you think about this turn of events?
