The race to the title in the featherweight division just got a lot more interesting this weekend.
After a one-sided fight with Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston, Conor McGregor ran across the octagon and leapt over the fence to run into the crowd and confront champion Jose Aldo, who was conveniently sitting cageside. Aldo, who had a sign that made fun of Conor that said “Go Joker, Go… Make me laugh”, got face to face time with Conor after his TKO win over Siver, and nearly had a fight in the audience instead of the in the cage. Aldo was not intimidated, and seemed unimpressed by the win with a smile on his face. Lucky for him, security intervened and made the sure the two did not start brawling on the spot.
“I’m looking into the crowd and I see Jose in the crowd, with my face on a joker poster or something. I don’t know what that was all about. They all think it’s fun and games, and I’m not playing,” McGregor said after his bout to the press, at which point after seeing the sign McGregor sprinted across the canvas towards Aldo. “The only thing that’s stopping me from smacking Jose and whooping him in the crowd was the money. Now it’s time. Now we have a location, and Jose will be the next one to learn that it’s not all talk, it’s not all jokes. Now we only have one man left.”
